Lavanya Yammanur was born and brought up in India. She was initiated in the divine dance form of Kuchipudi at a tender age of five by none other than her parents DR.PRA Babu and Smt Vijaya. She has learned Kuchipudi dance from Smt Sarada for almost 7 years and started learning Bharatnatyam and Folk dances from Guru P.Ramanjeneyulu for 6 years. She has given more than 300 stage performances all over India and over 100 programs in USA. But she enhanced all her performances with her own unique elegant and mellifluous style. She performed beautifully all the traditional Kuchipudi dance items like Tarangam, Bhamakalapam, Rama Shabdham few to say. She was more famous for her portrayal of Godess Parvathi in "Girija Kalyanam", as Mohini in "Mohini Bhasmasurua" as Padamavathi in " Srinivas Kalyanam" dance ballets, for which she established these roles powerfully always to a standing ovation. She received numerous awards, honors and citations; notable among them are : "Natya Mayuri", "Natya Rani" , Miss Cuddapah, Best Dancer awards. She finished Masters in Computer Science from SV university, she is a green belt holder in Karate, she has represented Andhra Pradesh two times during Table tennis state Champoinships held in New Delhi.
She founded Saimeghna Dance School in July 2000 with an aim to popularize Kuchipudi, the South Indian dance across USA. Since then scores of students have undergone instruction and gave public performances representing Saimeghna dance school.
She has also directed Telugu comedy dramas "Ma aayana bangaram" and "Modern SriKrishana Parijatham".
As a performer, teacher and choreographer, Lavanya wishes to share her extraordinary joy in dance, striving for new and effective ways to communicate the beauty of Kuchipudi to diverse audiences through new, vibrant and creative choreography.
Lavanya's experience as a dance teacher started in India when she was 16 years old. She was the cultural secretary at the Mahila Samaj for 2 years. She volunteered almost in all the local colleges, teaching them kuchipudi and folk dances. She has won lots of trophies, sheilds and Gold Medals at different competitions held in almost all cities in India. Lavanya worked as dance teacher at Aeolin Center of Arts for an year. She is a Joint secretary for Colorado Telugu Association. She is also teaching dance at Sri Venkateswara Temple of Colorado.
